semi-rationalism

   This term was invented to describe various theological positions that tend to overemphasize reason and minimize the role of faith in the faith-reason dialect. Various types of semi-rationalism, which enjoyed some degree of popularity in the nineteenth century, were rejected by the First Vatican Council.
